Tarian Lilin/Candle Dance
Tarian Lilin tells the tale of a young woman who has lost her engagement ring and is searching for it in the night by candle light. The story goes that the man who gave her the ring has gone off in pursuit of riches and while he is gone, she loses the ring. The dance is performed by graceful women who bend and kneel in flowing gestures as they balance a candle on a plate.
The dance comes from Sumatra. It is believed to have been inspired by a young woman who searched for her engagement ring by candlelight.
